Net Neutrality: Good Or Bad?

The Internet has become an essential element for today’s human beings and everybody wants equal rights on the internet but In many countries like Argentina, Belgium, China, Russia, South Korea, France, and others, citizens do not have equal rights on the internet. It means that you have to pay extra charges for surfing particular websites and there are some restrictions that are enforced by Internet Service Providers. So, today we are going to discuss this relevant topic and its pros and cons.

What is Net Neutrality?

It is a principle that allows all internet users to use the internet in their own way without any extra charges and restrictions. According to this law “Individuals should be free to access all content and application equally and all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) must carry all the data on the internet equally. ”

Why is this so relevant?

Net Neutrality is a very popular topic since 2014. Many individuals World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee, Vinton Cerf, Former US President Barack Obama, and others are supporters of Net Neutrality. Recently Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted 3-2 to evert net neutrality laws. FCC is now looking to repeal these laws, That’s why internet users of the US are protesting against this action of FCC and Republican House members support restoring Net Neutrality also.

What is the Good Side?

The major profit is that the internet is neutral for every individual and it is a very essential factor. It provides freedom of expression to those who want to raise voice against injustice and other social or political issues. Another advantage is that ISPs can not increase prices on services hence every individual can access every service easily.

It increases the growth of online education also because students and teachers both can access study material in an easy way. E-Learners have a golden opportunity for learning and ISPs cannot restrict or bound them with unnecessary laws.

Big companies and small startups both will have access to the same resources and capabilities. It increases their limit for innovation of products or services. This is why users are protesting against the end of Net Neutrality.

What is the Evil Side?

Like other things, Net Neutrality has disadvantages also. First of all, with Net Neutrality, there is no compensation for data usage. Some services utilize a large amount of data for free and that is noxious for ISPs.

In the guise of Freedom of Expression obscene and inappropriate content easily gets posted on the internet because ISPs don’t have any control over users’ data.

If net neutrality was removed, High-level data consumers would be asked to pay more for what they consume, because The additional income will utilize for improving infrastructure.

It is not a myth, it should be considered a serious issue. Some people think that end of it is the abuse of human rights but it is not true because some things are ruining the internet with inappropriate content, hence the end of net neutrality is a better idea to get rid of these problems. It helps to regulate the data consumption from harmful services.

On the other hand, it doesn’t bound the users, therefore, users are free to express their opinion. Net Neutrality provides the perfect modus to learn through the internet. It helps to revolutionize the education system.

Otherwise, users should be sensible about the content of the internet and wisely use the resources.
